Lovington Lodge was Chartered by the Grand Lodge of New Mexico on October 23, 1912.  Members listed on the original Charter were Emery M. Caudill, William Teas, James M. Roden, Sr., Robert F. Love, Ham Bishop, Matthew E. Sewall, George W. Ausley, George W. Blake, and Hamp Scott.

One thing that makes the timing of our Charter particularly significant is that Lovington Lodge #46 was the first Lodge of Masons Chartered after New Mexico became a State.  Were we the first Lodge Chartered in New Mexico? No, but we were the first Lodge Chartered in the State of New Mexico, and the only lodge chartered in the first year of Statehood!

An interesting tidbit about Lovington Lodge #46 is that we were a Moon Lodge.  Around the time of our Charter, some Lodges met on the night of the full moon.  In rural areas, this was done for two primary reasons.  First, as Masons were traveling by horseback to attend the meetings, the illumination of the full moon allowed them the safest and most illuminated night travel to and from the Lodge.  And secondly, and equally as important was, since communication was tedious at best, it was an easy way to remember the stated meetings, being on the night of the full moon.
